Development from puberty to adolescence and problems that occur during this development period

Research Group Overview

This research group undertakes studies in the following three areas with a focus on people in puberty and adolescence:

(1) Basic study on development from puberty to adolescence
As everybody knows, people in puberty develop new ways of thinking or seeing things. This research group seeks to clarify the patterns and mechanisms of changes in thought and perception as well as their relationship with other phenomena (e.g., lower self-respect and bullying).

(2) Study on problematic behavior
Children in developmental stages from puberty to adolescence often display various kinds of problematic behavior. The research group seeks to clarify the mechanisms behind such behavior with a focus on factors in development that cause problematic behavior. It also delves into theoretical aspects of human development from the viewpoint of problems.

(3) Study on application of research findings to education
While undertaking studies on the basic developmental process of puberty and problematic behavior often exhibited by children during this period, this research group tries to find ways to use research findings to benefit children in schools or other educational settings. This is intended to explore the possibility of new interpretations and applications by involving educators and sometimes children in analyzing and discussing research findings rather than confining the findings and related data to academic circles.
