Research Overview

My primary research interests are human motor control and related cognitive processing. The term motor may remind you of physical education and sports. However, all aspects of our daily lives involve motor tasks, such as reaching and grasping something, standing, walking, writing and speaking. In other words, all of our behavioral output is expressed exclusively through motor control. Elucidation of the motor control mechanism and application of related knowledge to promote motor learning and motor adaptation will support all aspects of our daily lives, which include the growth and development of children, an aging population, sports and rehabilitation.
However, many aspects of the motor control mechanism in humans have yet to be elucidated. Control of even seemingly simple movements, such as standing still and moving a hand from a certain point to another, is still a topic of ongoing discussion. This situation applies to intra-personal motor control, which means there are still many unanswered questions when it comes to inter-personal motor control, such as joint action, which involves social interaction (unique to humans). Our mundane everyday lives are full of interesting things to investigate. This research group hopes to conduct the types of research that will: (1) connect and apply our random thoughts and questions in daily life to interdisciplinary research for motor control and cognitive science; (2) contribute to the well-being of society by using the results of such research to provide motor support for our daily lives; and (3) impress people and bring the excitement of research to them.
