Studies on gender equality through labor process and personnel management

Research Group Overview

This research group conducts empirical studies from a social science perspective to achieve gender equality in private enterprises and other workplaces.
It is common for Japanese companies to develop human resources on the premise of long-term employment, allowing employees to acquire the expertise and experience necessary for management positions through extensive personnel changes, which often involve relocation. However, this applied mainly to male workers; female workers were not included in human resource development programs for a long time. As a result, wide gender gaps exist in terms of wages and careers, and the achievement of gender equality in workplaces is a major social issue in Japan.
This research group seeks to develop theoretical and empirical measures to achieve gender equality by clarifying structural problems confronting companies and other organizations through fact-finding surveys on employment management practices at companies and other organizations and on the awareness and responses of workers.
