Message

We face many adversities in our lives. Sometimes we may be hurt so deeply that it can be difficult to recover. However, some people not only recover, but grow better than before facing adversities. How do we experience such adversities? And why do some people grow better on experiencing adversities.
Let’s explore what kind of support is needed for people facing these difficulties, and what kind of support is needed to help them live happily.

Special field

clinical psychology, child welfare, humanistic psychology

Research theme

psychological care for children and care staffs in public care
promoting inclusion and diversity in school
peak-experiences in extreme environment

Detailed contents of research

Most children in public care have experienced maltreatment, such as child abuse. When we consider psychological care for them, in addition to therapeutic approaches such as treating trauma and rebuilding attachments, it is important to help them have a future perspective. From the experience of clinical psychologist in child welfare facilities, I believe that not only psychotherapy but also psychological care throughout their lives is needed to achieve such support. Therefore, my research and practice focuses are: (1) psychotherapy and play therapy for children who are victims of child abuse and neglect, (2)psychological support for care giver (including parent , foster parent and care stuff), (3) independent support for youth in care.
In addition, recent research has focused on positive aspects within the environment and individuals, such as peak experience, post-traumatic growth, and resilience.
